Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I have been working in the financial services since 1985.
What is your primary product or service?
My specialty is Portfolio Management and General Financial Planning. Since I am a Fee Only Advisor, I do not sell any product. I work only for each individual client to do what is in their best interest!
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I first became interested in Fee Only Financial Planning because I initially worked with insurance, but was never comfortable working for commissions. I wanted to both make a difference in people's lives and do so without any conflicts of interest.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
As a Fee Only Investment Advisor, in Feb. 2009 Business Week Magazine listed me as one of the 50 most experienced Investment Advisors (listed 14th) in the country. I only work on a Fee Only basis and with a small number of clients so I can provide the best personals service possible.
Also, I am an Associate Professor teaching for The College of Financial Planning's Masters Degree Program. I only teach part time, as my Clients always come first when allocating my time.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I am located in Roseville, MN near the St Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. Near Highway 280 and Larpenteur Avenue. This will always be my only location.
Provide detailed directions to your location
1957 Lake Street
Roseville, MN 55113
My Office is on Lake Street, 1 block north of Roselawn Avenue in Roseville. Near the University of Minnesota and the Midland Hills Golf Course.
What type of payments do you accept?
I accept Cash, Check or Payment from a Brokerage Account.
Which areas do you service?
I have clients all over the country.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I am the sole owner of Hometown Financial Planning. When you call, you talk directly to me every time.
What are your hours of operation?
I meet clients by appointment at my office during normal business hours from 8:00 am to 4:00pm. I also schedule appointments in the evenings and on weekends when daytime does not work for the client. My job is to serve my clients the best I can, so I will meet them when needed.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Being listed in Business Week Magazine as one of the 50 most experienced Fee Only Advisors in the country was nice. But am happiest when clients tell me, they know I have their best interest at heart!
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
I love the whole Bible and do my best to serve others and treat them as God would have me do.
It is common, but John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
